The Vi-K1 allows Videoswitch digital recorders (DVRs) to be controlled via a twisted pair link from a remote location such as another part of a building.

The Vi-K2 and Vi-K3 joystick keyboards may be used to control domes either directly or via a Videoswitch digital recorder (DVR). Dual dome outputs are provided so two types of domes may be controlled from the same keyboard.

All Videoswitch keyboards feature a built-in balun that allows video to be transmitted via a twisted pair connection from the DVR to the keyboard such that a video monitor may be connected to the keyboard. Together with self-powering in the case of the Vi-K1, this means that a simple CAT5 connection is all that is required for connection of the keyboard and monitor to a DVR. Multiple keyboards may be daisy-chained if more control points are required.

When DVRs are cascaded (Vi-series or M-series), a single keyboard can then control up to 256 cameras. Cameras are called up by just entering the number 1 to 256 and the monitor(s) likewise display the number 1 to 256. This seamless integration means that Videoswitch DVRs are ideal for larger installations as well as small ones. Full menu access (password protected) and dome control is available across all DVRs.

These keyboards can also address multiple DVRs that are not otherwise linked. Typically in this case, a star expander on the output of the keyboard is used to connect to multiple DVRs (see application note VSD605A.PDF)
